Exciting News

Family PhotoIt is with great rejoicing the elders wish to announce Curtis Baker has accepted our offer as Lead Minister at RiverWalk Church of Christ. Curtis and his family plan to arrive early the week of August 21st. Curtis’ first “official” Sunday preaching is to be August 28th. We wish to thank the Search Committee members, Mark Frost, the staff and you the congregation for your faith and prayers during this interim time. We believe God has answered our prayers in His time and is bringing us the man He has prepared to serve RiverWalk in the next chapter of our legacy.

Curtis was raised in Neosho, Missouri. After graduating from high school, he spent a year driving truck. (There appear to be some interesting tales from that year, but we may have to wait a while before we hear them.) Curtis moved to Lubbock, TX when he was 19 to attend the Sunset International Bible Institute. He graduated from there in 2002 and then pursued his education at Lubbock Christian University where he obtained both a B.A. and an M. A. in Biblical Interpretation.

Curtis has been married to Olya for nearly 13 years. She is originally from Russia and came to study at Sunset as a missionary in 2002. Olya also holds a degree in Bible and Missions, as well as degrees from Russia in English and Russian literature. She has recently managed several departments for City Bank of Texas and has been a U. S. Citizen for several years. Curtis and Olya have three boys: Andrew (9), Luke (6) and Elijah (3). Olya’s mother, Valentina Perova, lives with them and helps care for the boys.

Since 2005 the Bakers have ministered together at the Church of Christ in Slaton, Texas. He began there as a Young Adults minister, but in 2007 he became the fulltime preacher. He has been active in his community, as well as the church.
