The RiverWalk Church of Christ is guided by a group of 7 elders, each of whom was selected by the members of the congregation to be their spiritual leaders and shepherds.
Bill Buggeln has served as en elder for this congregation since 1993. Bill and his wife Dianne were married in December, 1966. They have raised 4 children: Cheri, Eric, Michelle and Evan and have been blessed with several grandchildren, as well. Bill was born and raised in Hutchinson, Kansas. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Bible from Oklahoma Christian University. He served as minister for several churches of Christ in Kansas for 20 years and the last 19 years worked with AT&T in Wichita. Bill’s newest venture is as the Director of Church Relations for Carpenter Place, a position that will put to great use his ties throughout the state of Kansas and his love for the church. In addition, he works other part-time jobs, as he is needed and can serve.Bill has many interests, including book binding, raising cattle and sports of all kinds.
He has been a L.I.F.E. group leader for several years, preaches when called upon, and teaches in our Adult Bible Class program.
Terry Burr has served as an elder for this congregation since 1993. Terry and his wife Liz were married in August, 1969 and have raised 2 children, Ryan and Amy. Their extended family has grown to include 4 grandchildren.Terry was born in Benkelman, Nebraska, just north of the Kansas farm where he was raised. He attended York College and graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics from Kansas State University. Over the years his professional career has included farming, farm equipment sales, insurance sales and insurance claims.Terry has been a high school basketball and football official for over 25 years. He enjoys golfing as much as possible, and enjoyed golfing in Ireland in 2004. He and Liz have traveled extensively in the USA, as well as their trip to Ireland and a trip with the York College chorus to Europe while in school.
He has been a L.I.F.E. group leader for several years, as well as serving on the Finance and Mission Endowment committees. For several years he was a teen sponsor at their annual Rockcleft retreat.
Don Gribble has served as an elder for this congregation since 2007. Don and his wife Rhonda were married in October, 1989. Their family includes 4 children: Hayley, Joshua, Victoria and Tiffany. Don was born and raised in Wichita. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in 1981 from the University of Kansas in Lawrence and his Juris Doctor degree in 1984, also from K.U. He is a partner with Hite, Fanning and Honeyman, the same firm with which he has practiced law since graduating from law school.
Don enjoys hunting, fishing, dog training (retriever) and camping. He has been a L.I.F.E group leader for several years and has taught many Bible classes for our congregation. He currently works with our youth and participates in our Serve Wichita projects.
Rob Kruckenberg has served our congregation as an elder since 2007. He has been married to LeAnn since June, 1978 (with the ceremony having been performed by Bill Buggeln). Rob and LeAnn have 2 grown sons, Adam and Caleb. Rob was born in Great Bend, Kansas, and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English from Newman University in Wichita, as well as a Certificate from the Sunset International Bible Institute. Rob has preached for churches of Christ in Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma and is currently a computer programmer for a bank processor. He enjoys cooking and travel, interests which combined to make a recent trip to Italy especially memorable.
Rob is a frequent adult Bible class teacher for our congregation. He is also a “fill-in” speaker at times for our worship assembly and also serves as a ServeWichita volunteer.
Larry McKean has served as an elder of this congregation since 1978. Larry and his wife Jo were married in September, 1961 and have 2 children, Tammy Boss and Byron McKean. Their extended family includes 5 grandchildren. Larry was born and raised in Pennsylvania but moved to Kansas temporarily in 1963 to work at the Boeing Company. Larry earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business from Harding University and his Master’s Degree from Wichita State University. His professional work has been in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering and Human Resources and Procurement. Larry and Jo moved back to the Wichita area to serve as Houseparents for the Maude Carpenter Children’s Home, now known as Carpenter Place.Over the years, Larry has lead many adult Bible classes for our congregation, as well as Bible family seminars around the state with Jo. In addition, they are worldwide travelers, having visited more than 25 countries, including Australia, Hong Kong, all of Europe, Puerto Rico, Bermuda and Tahiti.
He has been a L.I.F.E. group leader for several years. Larry is an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoys both good and bad rounds of golf.
Scott Ramsey has served our congregation as an elder since 2007. He and his wife Cindy were married in May, 1985 and their family includes 3 children: Cassie, Michael and Brandon. Their family interests include camping, horseback riding, cattle ranching, travel, cruises and country music. Many of their travels include Scott’s in-laws, Bob and Janet Shanks, also members of RiverWalk Church. Scott was born and raised in Kansas and currently lives with his family on their ranch near Mulvane. Scott earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Oklahoma Christian College in 1985. His professional work is currently as Senior Account Manager at KFDI Radio in Wichita, but has also included Verizon Wireless retail store manager and assistant controller with Pawnee Industries.
In addition to teaching a wide variety of Bible classes for our congregation, Scott can be seen at most worship assemblies interpreting for our deaf members. He is involved in many of our teen activities, including as a camp sponsor for the teens’ annual retreat at Rockcleft in Colorado. Scott also serves on the Board of Directors of the Heart of America Leadership Training for Christ (HOA LTC), whose annual convention is the culmination of year-long learning activities for our young people.
Jim Starke has served as an elder for this congregation since 2007. Jim and his wife Kathy have been married since 1979 and have raised 2 daughters, Melissa Nunez and Sabrina. Jim was born in Kansas City, Missouri and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Central Missouri State University. Jim has taught in high school for several years and is currently a Special Education teacher in Derby. Over the years, he has also worked in sales.Jim’s favorite activity is reading, especially history.
He has been a L.I.F.E. group leader and has also taught several adult Bible classes at RiverWalk Church. He is active in our Prison Ministry and participates in our ServeWichita ministries at the Lord’s Diner and by packing and serving sack lunches for the homeless.
